Redding, Calif. - Simpson University Athletic Director, Dan Tating has announced Edgar Mendez as the new Head Women's Basketball Coach.
Mendez joins the Red Hawk family following a nine-year stint with the men's basketball program, four years as the head coach, five as an assistant, with his alma mater, San Diego Christian College.
"It's an honor to be called to service as the next head women's basketball coach of Simpson University Red Hawks," Mendez says, "I first and foremost want to give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing me this wonderful opportunity! Secondly, thank you to President Dr. Hall, and Athletic Director, Dan Tating for believing in and entrusting me with this program."
Coach Mendez comes to Simpson University after coaching in one of the most respected and competitive conferences in the NAIA, the Golden State Athletic Conference. All in all Coach Mendez has over 17 years of experience which include coaching professionally in Mexico, as well as at the junior college and high school levels.Â
"I intend to continue to hold, and strive to exceed, the bar of excellence already set with the Simpson University women's basketball program. I look forward to leading this program and young women with our team motto 'A relentless pursuit of remarkable," Mendez says.
Mendez will begin his duties at Simpson University immediately.
