Hustlin' Owls sweep Simpson Baseball in NAIA West Doubleheader

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Simpson University baseball team dropped two games to Oregon Tech 23-13 and 13-3 in day one of the NAIA West series held in Klamath Falls, OR on Saturday.

Game 1 - OIT 23, SU 13
In game one, the Red Hawks would play even with Oregon Tech tied 2-2 through the first three innings. The Hustlin' Owls would score seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to gain the lead 9-2. Casey Meyer and Derick Kuhn would score to unearned runs on a error thrown to the short stop. Aaron Curfman would grounded out to the short stop which would allow Jarrett Kirby to score, narrowing the OIT lead to four (9-5). In the bottom of the fifth, Oregon Tech would score two more runs increasing their lead 11-5.

SU would response with five runs in the top of the sixth. Meyers would hit a single to the outfield which allowed George Cecchetti to score on an unearned run. OIT would walk Ryan Ford with the bases load, allowing Kirby to score from third base. Curfman would hit a double and bring home three more runs to get SU within one point (11-10). 

The Red Hawks would even the score in the top of the seventh on Kuhn single that brought home Garrett Yoder (11-11). OIT would score five runs in the bottom of the seventh and seven runs in the bottom of the eighth and SU would only score two runs in the eighth, giving the Hustlin' Owls the victory 23-13.

Kyle Martain earned the loss. Martain pitch 2.2 innings giving up six hits and five runs while facing 13 batters. Humberto Solorio pitched  4.0 innings allowing 13 hits and nine runs. Robert Bristol pitched 1.0 innings allowing three hits and six runs and Dalton Grisell finished the contest allowing four hits and three runs.

Curfman led the Red Hawks with four RBI's and Rath Moseley followed with three. Blaine Hokama, Ford, Meyer, and Kuhn each recorded one RBI.

Game 2 - OIT 13, SU 3
In game two, SU would take an early 1-0 lead in the second, but OIT would respond tying the game 1-1 headed into the fourth inning. From their, Oregon Tech would outscore Simpson 12-2 and defeat the Red Hawks 13-3.

Cody Coggins earned the loss, pitching 4.1 inning giving up eight hits and seven runs. James Humphrey pitched 2.2 innings allowing five hits and 6 runs. 

Ryan King and Cody Jamerson each recorded a RBI. 

The Red Hawks and Hustlin' Owls will concluded the NAIA West series with a doubleheader starting at 11am on Sunday.
