Red Hawks split twinbill with Marymount

WILMINGTON, Calif. - No.10 Simpson Softball team concluded their Cal Pac Conference series with Marymount University with a split, dropping game one 3-2 and in game two defeated Marymount 9-3.

Game 1 - SU 2, MCU 3
SU would give up three runs in the first two innings, giving Marymount an early lead of 3-0. The Red Hawks would strive for a comeback, scoring runs in the sixth and seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as the Mariners defeated Simpson 3-2. Amy Rodriguez pitched 1.1 innings allowing two hits and three runs. Paris Hallums was credited the loss, as she pitched 4.2 innings allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out six batters. Bailey Akins and Kristin Beckman each recorded a RBI. 

Game 2 - SU 9, MCU 3
The offensive fire power of the Red Hawks would be in full display in game two, as SU would score one run in the second and eight runs in the third. Carlye Avey pitched another stellar game, giving up two runs in the second and one run in the fifth. Avey pitched 7.0 innings allowing 10 hits and while facing 29 batters. Avey's overall recorded improves to 13-0. Courtney Thomas led SU with two RBI's. Madison Wright went 2-4 from the plate with a RBI and Amanda Laughlin was 2-4 from the plate with two runs scored. Beckman recorded a RBI and was 2-4 from the plate. Jessica Dager, Rachel Esse, and Missy Silveira each recorded a RBI.

The Red Hawks will head back to Redding, CA for another Cal Pac Conference series with University Antelope Valley on April 2 and 3. First pitch is schedule for noon at the Simpson Softball Field.
