Red Hawks drop doubleheader to Menlo

REDDING, Calif.- The Red Hawks returned home on Thursday to take on the Oaks from Menlo College in a double header dropping both games, 14-5 and 10-7.

In game one the Red Hawks would be plagued by a couple of big innings by the Oaks as the scored five times in the second inning and four times in the eighth to put the game beyond the Red Hawks reach.

Red Hawks runs would come in the second inning on a George Cecchetti single, in the fifth inning on a Ferguson single, twice in the sixth on a Rath Moseley single and Casey Meyer scored on a wild throw and the last run coming in the ninth when Kenneth Sellers scored in a Cody Jamerson groundout.

Eric Schreter was the loser for the Red Hawks allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in 2.2 innings of work. Ferguson went 2-4 from the plate with an RBI with Matthew Kiyota also adding 2 hits and scoring twice in the game.

In game two the Oaks jumped out early again scoring three times in the top on the first inning. The Red Hawks would respond with two in the second on a Ryan King Sac Fly and a Austin Ruffner Sac fly to make it 3-2 Oaks.

The Oaks matched the two runs with two of their own in the third to increase the lead back to three runs before adding one in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it 7-2 Oaks.

The Red Hawks would cut into that lead in the fifth inning when the struck for three runs when Jamerson scored on a Jarrett Kirby double, then Kirby would score on a Garrett Yoder single and then Yoder would score on a Blaine Hokama double to make it 7-5.

The Oaks would close out the game with one run in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth with the Red Hawks only able to score twice more in the eighth on a Casey Meyer triple to score Kiyota and then Meyer would score on a Ryan Ford ground out.

Stephen Olson gets the loss allowing 7 earned runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.

The Red Hawks will look to bounce back on Friday when they take on the Yotes from the College of Idaho at Tiger Field in a double header starting at 12pm.
