Red Hawks split with Corban

SALEM, Ore.- The Red Hawks hit the road on Friday when they traveled to Oregon to take on the Warriors from Corban University in a double header. The Red Hawks were coming off their first win of the season which the matched in game one of the double header taking the Warriors down in extra innings, 6-5, before dropping the second game, 15-8.

Dylan Mumford got the Red Hawks off to a great start when he hit a solo shot in the top of the first inning. The Red Hawks would double their lead in the 3rd inning when Aaron Curfman's single scored Rath Mosley.

The Warriors would get one back in the 3rd inning to make it 2-1 Red Hawks but would overall have their bats silenced by the Red Hawk starter James Humphrey would would hold the Warriors to just the one run and two hits though the 7th inning. 

The Red Hawks would extend their lead to 4-1 when they would score one in each the 5th and 6th inning first from a Kyle Ferguson single scoring Mosley and then from a Casey Meyer double which would score Mumford.

The Warriors would cut the lead to 4-3 after 8th inning before the Red Hawks would add what would prove to be a very important run in the top of the 9th when George Cecchetti scored on an error.

The Warriors would come all the way back in the bottom of the 9th scoring twice on four hits to send the game into extra innings. Jarrett Kirby would come to the plate with the bases loaded and single to centerfield to score Matthew Kiyota and take back the lead. 

Zane Medeiros and Cody Coggins would combine to pitch a scoreless 10th to secure the win for the Red Hawks.

Humphrey got no decision going 7.1 innings allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out 6 batters. Coggins earns the save retiring both batters he faced.

Mumford was 2-3 with and RBI and two runs scored also drawing two walks. Meyer and Mosley both added three hit each.

Game two was a different story as the Warrior bats came alive scoring early and often as the scored twice in the first and second innings to jump out to a early 4-0 lead.

Mumford was at it again in the third innings and would cut that lead in half this time his homer came with a Frguson on base to make it 4-2. 

The Warriors would add two more in the 4th inning before Mumford would add another for the Red Hawks in the fifth inning when his RBI single scored Kenny Sellers to make it 6-3.

The Warriors would score three in th sixth inning, four in the seventh inning and two in the eight inning to put the game out of reach. The Red Hawks would go without a fight as they scored twice in the seventh on a Blaine Hokama triple scoring Mumford and Checchetti and three more runs in the eighth inning on a Checchetti sac fly, Sellers scored on a wild pitch and a Derrick Kuhn ground out to score Coryn Iwamasa.

Garett Yoder gets hit with the loss for the Red Hawks allowing eight runs on eleven hits in 5.2 innings. 

Offensively Mumford continued to be hot adding 3 more hits with 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

These teams will conclude their series Saturday, March 12th in Salem, Oregon with first pitch scheduled st 10:00 p.m.
