La Sierra Comeback Too Much for Red Hawks in Regular Season Finale

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Simpson held a eight-point lead after the first half, 50-42, but could not withstand a furious comeback by La Sierra on Saturday as the Golden Eagles earned the Cal-Pac Conference's No. 2 seed in next week's league tournament with an 88-82 win over the Red Hawks. The two teams will meet again in the semifinals as the Red Hawks are the No. 3 seed.

SU shot 57 percent from the floor in the first half to build its lead, but went cold in the second 20 minutes htting just 37 percent from the field. LSU outscored the Red Hawks 46-32 in the second half.

Jacob Kaler led four Red Hawks in double figures with 19 points. Marc Kirkland added 15 points, and Josh Delamarter and Josh Brakkee each tallied 14.

The Red Hawks and Golden Eagles will meet in the second semifinal on Saturday, February 27 at the Cal-Pac championships held on the campus of Cal Maritime in Vallejo. Maritime and UC Merced will meet in the first semifinal. SU and LSU are scheduled to tip at approximately 7:30 p.m.
