Volleyball Clinches Postseason Berth with Upset of Embry Riddle

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson's volleyball team earned a berth into next week's Cal-Pac Tournament with an upset victory in five sets over the league's top team, Embry Riddle. The Red Hawks clinched the win with an 18-16 nail-biter in the final set. Madison Rinehart's service ace capped a back-and-forth match that saw the Red Hawks win the first set, 25-22, and then drop back-to-back 25-20 decisions in the second and third before storming back with a convincing 25-14 win to force a fifth game.

Rinehart led the Red Hawks with 16 kills, followed by Aimee Belleville's 11. Belleville controlled the net with 5.5 blocks. Sara Salmon added three blocks as well. Ashley Cervantes handed out a team-high 20 assists, and Michelle Aleong served four aces. Cervantes led the defense with 25 digs, followed by 18 from Jazmin Wallace and 14 from Rinehart.

Simpson decided the match behind the service line recording 10 aces to just three for ERAU. The Red Hawks also contolled the net with 11 blocks to eight for the Eagles.

Jordan James led the Eagles with 15 kills. Hannah Mercurio set 31 assists.

Simpson celebrates Senior Night on Saturday in the regular season finale at the Heritage Center against La Sierra. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
