Women's Volleyball Falls to Pioneers at Home

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University volleyball team fell to Pacific Union College in three straight sets (25-14,25-20,25-22), Saturday, Oct.24. The Pioneers split the series 1-1 after losing to the Red Hawks on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in four sets.

The Red Hawks were flat in the first set as the Pioneers got off to a 15-7 lead. Pacific Union would increase their lead to 12 points (21-9), but the Red Hawks would try and rally back scoring two straight points to narrow the lead to 10 (21-11). The Pioneer would regain their focus and finish the set winning 25-14.

In the second set, Simpson would once again get off to a slow start. Pacific Union would gain an early lead (6-2). The Red Hawks fought back narrowing the lead to one (9-8). The Pioneers would increase their lead to five points (15-10), but the Red Hawks would contiue to scrap back once again getting within two (18-16). Pacific Union close the set on a seven to four run and seal the victory 25-20.

Simspon would take control of set three, with an early 11-6 lead. The Pioneers would fight back late in the set, tying it 15-15 on a service error by Meg Edwards. Pacific Union would gain the lead 16-15 on kill. Stevielee Jansen would tie the game again on a kill whic was assisted by Ashley Cervantes (16-16). Both teams would battle the rest of the way until the last two points, as the Pioneers would have two back to back kills to seal the victory 25-22. 


StevieLee Jansen led the Red Hawks with nine kills, Aimee Belleville followed with six and Cervantes contributed with five. Jazmine Wallace lead both teams with 16 digs. Cervantes led the Red Hawks with 11 assist.

The Red Hawks return to action Friday, Oct. 30 at UC Merced. Match is set for 5pm.
