Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at Merced

MERCED, Calif. - Simpson's volleyball team took the first set at UC Merced on Friday evening, but the Bobcats responded with three straight set victories to win an important Cal-Pac Conference matchup, 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-16). The match featured two teams tied in the loss column in a virtual tie for second place heading into the night's play. With the win, the Bobcats complete the regular season sweep over the Red Hawks.

Led by Aimee Belleville's matching of a career high for a four-set match with 11 kills, the Red Hawks took control of the opening set and hit their way to a 25-21 win. As a team, SU hit at a .121 clip compared to Merced's -.029. For the match, Ashley Cervantes recorded a double-double with 16 digs and 13 assists. She added six kills. Jazmin Wallace also added double figure digs with 10.

The Bobcats dominated the final three sets of the night, hitting at over a .250 average and limiting the Simpson offense to just 12, 17, and 16 points, respectively in sets two, three, and four.

The Red Hawks remain on the road for another crucial conference tilt at Antelope Valley on Saturday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Lancaster, Calif.
