Men's Soccer Solidifies Postseason Chances with Win at PUC

ANGWIN, Calif. - Simpson overtook second place in the Cal-Pac North Division standings with a crucial 3-1 victory at Pacific Union on Sunday. The Red Hawks won their second straight game in their final regular season road contest in comeback fashion after the Pioneers scored within the first minute of play to take a 1-0 lead.

SU controlled play for the better part of the first half and tied and eventually took the lead before the intermission. Kyle Carpenter's 20-yard laser evened the game at 1-1, and Brandon Jacobsen scored his 10th goal of the season and second game-winner to give Simpson a 2-1 lead late in the first half. Craig Stieler's header off a corner kick was the only tally of the second half, but gave the Red Hawks the breathing room it needed.

Michael Jones was stellar in goal making two outstanding saves and six in all to keep the Red Hawks ahead and in control of the game.

With the win, SU moves past PUC into second place and with a victory of securing a spot in the league tournament.

Simpson plays host to Cal Maritime on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3:00 p.m.
