Volleyball Picks up Road Win at PUC

ANGWIN, Calif. - The Simpson University volleyball team earned a huge Cal Pac road win over Pacific Union College, 3-1 (25-23,26-24,23-25,25-20), Sunday evening. Each set was a nail bitter as the largest margin of victory was five, which came in the decisive fourth set for the Red Hawks.

In set one, both teams battled through 12 ties, five lead changes and 48 rallies. The Red Hawks took the first set 25-23 on Aimee Belleville's kill and a server error by Pacific Union.

Set two was much the same as the Red Hawks won 26-24. There were 15 ties, three lead changes, and 50 rallies. The Red Hawks' largest lead was two which came at the end with another Belleville kill and an Ashley Cervantes kill to seal the victory.

In set three, the Pioneers held off a furious Red Hawk rally earning a two point victory over SU, 25-23. Pacific Union built as much as a seven-point margin (19-12) only to see the visitors nearly push the set to extra points. Tied at 12 apiece, the Pioneers rattled off seven straight points to seemingly take control of the set before Simpson responded with seven straight to tie it at 19. The Pioneers held off late in the set to earn the two-point victory.

Simpson bounced back from the set three loss and closed the match winning 25-20 in the fourth. Jazmin Wallace sealed the victory with a service ace.

Madison Rinehart's 16 kills led the offensive attack for the Red Hawks. Cervantes (12) and Belleville (11) also reached double figures in kills. Wallace accounted for a team-high 20 digs, while Rinehart followed with 19. Kelsey Reibsamen recorded 22 assists, and Cervantes had 18 helpers. Belleville recorded three blocks and Chelsea White followed with two.

Simpson's next match is Oct. 24, a rematch against Pacific Union at The Cage. First serve is at 8pm.
