Simpson and Warner Pac tie in mid-week match

PORTLAND, Ore. - The women's soccer team earned a mid-week draw against Warner Pacific tonight, 1-1.

The story of the game focused on a pair of penalty kicks. The Knights drew first blood in the 50th minute as a crucial foul in the box for the Red Hawks set up a goal by Clarisa Lemus.

However, moments later, the Knights returned the favor and committed a costly foul in the box to allow Nadia Santiago to drill her first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

But both defenses proved to stand tall as the first goals appeared in the second half of the contest. Simpson outshot the Knights 18-9, with an 8-4 shot-on-goal advantage.

Goalkeeper Jenna Sosa earned her first tie in the young season as she posted three saves. Her counterpart, Evelyn Montiel, notched seven saves as both keepers allowed just one goal on a combined 27 shots.

Santiago remains perfect in penalty kick attempts in her two years as a Red Hawk, as last year she was a perfect 4-4 in penalty kick opportunities.

Simpson continues their Oregon road trip as they take on Bushnell on Thursday at 4 pm in Eugene, OR.
