IRVINE, Calif. - The Simpson baseball team dropped the series opener tonight, 13-2, against Westcliff.
The story of the game belonged to Cameron Witte and the Warrior offense as they registered 16 hits.
Westcliff scored five runs over the first two innings as Patrick Morgan highlighted the rally with a two-run triple.
The Warriors broke it open in the fifth inning as they hung a six-spot on six hits, which included a leadoff home run by Jack Varney and RBI knocks by Kailen Kimata and Morgan to give Westcliff the commanding 11-0 lead.
The Red Hawks got on the board in the eighth inning on a two-run blast by
Duke Aloy. But the Red Hawks could not overcome the deficit as they fell 13-2 in game one to begin the three-game set.
JJ Torrente led the Red Hawks' seven-hit performance with two hits and two walks. Starter
Daniel Aceto took the loss as he allowed five runs on eight hits over 2.0 innings of work before handing the ball to the Simpson bullpen.
Martin Sanchez and Varney led the Warriors with three-hit performances as Witte earned the win by tossing 7.0 shutout innings.
The first pitch for tomorrow's doubleheader is scheduled for 11 am.
