Simpson basketball splits against Stanton to begin conference play

The women's team comes out victorious as the men's team falls in a nail-biter

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - The Red Hawks split their conference opener last night as the girls won 61-49 while the men's squad fell 74-70 on the road against Stanton University.

The women's team began the night with a conference opener victory as they stifled the Elks. 

Andrea Perez had a big night for the Red Hawks as she posted a team-high 16 points to go along with two assists, two steals, and three rebounds. 

Destiny Nichols followed close behind with 14 points while Anna Marshall rounded out the double-digit performances with 10 points. 

Cerina Nguyen nearly posted a double-double as she recorded nine points and nine rebounds. 

The Red Hawks held off the Elks' late fourth-quarter comeback to begin conference play in the win column.

The men's team concluded the night with the Elks edging the Red Hawks 74-70. 

Simpson saw four Red Hawks notch double-digit performances, with Timothy Parker leading the way with a team-high 26 points to go along with seven rebounds. 

Nian Allen and reigning Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week, Dylan Harms, each posted 10 points to combine for eight rebounds. 

Sophomore Jack Jillson provided impactful minutes off the bench as he notched 10 points while shooting 50% from the floor. 

The boys team looks to be back in action Saturday night as they take on Westcliff at 6 pm.
