Red Hawks ride big second half past the Warriors

IIRVINE, Calif. - The Red Hawks got in the conference win column tonight as they bounced back from last night's conference opening loss to Stanton by stifling the Warriors in a 67-49 victory.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before a layup by Timothy Parker gave Simpson its first lead of the night off an 8-2 run.

A six-point swing in favor of the Red Hawks saw Dylan Harms drill a three-pointer while Timothy Parker completed a layup with the and-one free throw.

The last couple of minutes before the half featured the Red Hawks and Warriors exchanging buckets, with Simpson holding onto the four-point lead.

Aidan Rolfs drained his shot from beyond the arc to give Simpson the 33-29 lead heading into the half.

Harms had a big first half as he posted a team-high nine points thanks to two huge three-pointers. Harms picked up where he left off, as he put up the first points of the second half with a layup to help Simpson regain the one-point advantage to begin the second half.

The Red Hawks surrendered the lead one more time before regaining the lead on back-to-back buckets by Parker and Rolfs to take the four-point lead, 40-36.

Simpson never relinquished the lead as they outscored the Warriors 34-20 as the offense thrived by shooting 58.3% as a team from the floor while holding the Warriors offense to a mere 28% from the floor.

Harms led the scoring with 15 points, along with six rebounds and three steals.

Jack Jillson had another big game off the bench as he followed close behind with 14 points as he shot 5-6 from the floor while being a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc.

Parker rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points as he posted back-to-back double-digit performances to begin conference play.

With the win, Simpson splits its first conference road trip as they kept pace with Stanton. Westcliff and Pacific Union.

The boys are back in action this Wednesday at home as they take on Lincoln at 7 pm.
