EUGENE, Ore. - The Red Hawks dropped their first road series of the season against Bushnell University as they fell in game three 13-4 and game four 11-4.
The Beacons drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning in game three as they plated three runs on two timely singles.
Simpson chipped away in the top of the third inning as they took advantage of two Beacon miscues by plating two runs on a safety squeeze by
Malachi Fuller and an RBI groundout by
Mario Catalan.
But the Beacons broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning as they put up a crooked number to take the 9-2 lead.
A two-out error by the Beacons allowed the Red Hawks to climb back into the game as
Andrew Sherrell came up clutch with a two-run double to make it a 9-5 game.
The Beacons added four more insurance runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning, which proved more than enough for their bullpen as they allowed zero runs over the final three innings of play to secure the 13-4 game three victory.
Game 2:
The Beacons jumped on the board first in the series finale as they plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead.
Back-to-back hit batsmen to
Owen Hayes and
Bo Valladao to begin the fourth inning put early traffic aboard for Simpson.
A sacrifice bunt by
Nui Sato allowed the Red Hawks to put the tying runs into scoring position as Sherrell picked up his third RBI of the day on a RBI single into left field, followed by a safety squeeze by
Tyler Haruta to tie the game.
However, the Beacons answered quickly as they retook the lead by plating four runs off three hits in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run blast and an RBI double.
Simpson scratched one run across in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Jackson Berry, and another run in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Catalan.
But Bushnell held onto the 11-4 victory to take the series 3-1 while
Cayden Lee, Valladao, and Haruta posted two-hit performances.
Simpson returns home this week as they host Corban University on Friday at 1 pm to begin a four-game series.
