REDDING, Calif. - The Banana Slugs from UC Santa Cruz came to the James M. Grant Center tonight and took care of business as they took down the Red Hawks 78-39.
Back-to-back jump shots by
Anna Marshall and
Cerina Nguyen gave Simpson the early lead.
However, the Banana Slugs came roaring back as they outscored Simpson 21-3, as a three-pointer by Marshall helped cut into the Banana Slugs' lead.
UC Santa Cruz kept the momentum rolling as they outscored Simpson 25-6 in the second quarter to take the commanding 46-13 lead going into the half.
Three straight points by
Te'Niyah Lindsey and Nguyen to begin the second half chipped away at the Banana Slugs' lead.
Simpson continued its second-half success as it scored a game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Lindsey led the Red Hawks' fourth-quarter attack as she posted a team-high seven points while
Mariah Napoleon and
Moriah Bowles each connected from beyond the arc.
Marshall and Lindsey led the Red Hawks with 11 points each, while Nguyen, Napoleon, and
Angie Iheanachor each posted a team-high four rebounds.
The Red Hawks are back in action next week, on Wednesday at 5:30 pm, as they host Cal Maritime.
