REDDING, Calif. - The women's basketball team resumed conference play tonight as they took down Cal Maritime 77-71 in comeback fashion.
Cal Maritime started strong with seven straight points before the Red Hawks came roaring back to tie the game at 15. Ann Marshall anchored the rally with nine points while
Destiny Nichols capped off the run by converting a tough layup and the and-one free throw to tie the game.Â
Simpson grabbed its first lead of the game as Marshall drained a three-pointer to give Simpson the one-point advantage to begin the second quarter.Â
But the Keelhaulers answered back as they outscored Simpson 12-2 to take the 41-31 lead to go into the half.Â
Cal Maritime kept rolling in the second half as they grew their biggest lead of the game to 17 points.Â
Back-to-back buckets by Marshall and Nichols helped spark the Red Hawks' comeback as they went on a 19-6 run to pull within four points, 56-52.Â
A three-pointer by
Moriah Bowles pulled Simpson within one before a layup by Nichols gave Simpson the 68-67 lead.Â
The Red Hawks outscored the Keelhaulers 9-4 to complete the 77-71 victory.Â
Marshall led the team with 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.Â
Nichols followed close behind with 20 points to go along with five steals while shooting 9-12 from the floor.Â
Bowles led the defense with eight rebounds while adding 13 points.Â
Mariah Napoleon played a key role off the bench as she posted 11 points and three rebounds while shooting 5-7 from the floor.Â
Simpson looks to be back in action this Satuday as they take on Pacific Union College.
