REDDING, California. - The men's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season today as they took on Oregon Tech. 

The Owls struck first as they scored in the 23rd minute, as an OIT forward snuck through the Red Hawks' defense for the game's first goal. 

OIT held the 1-0 lead going into the half as both teams fired three shots, with Simpson having two shots on goal. 

Simpson had its closest opportunity at tying the game in the 68th minute as a free kick by Simpson found the foot of Alan Gonzalez before hitting the top crossbar. 

However, the Red Hawks could not find the back of the net even though they out-shot the Owls 6-2 in the second half and 9-5 in the game. 

The Redding heat provided an intense game that saw a total of four yellow cards handed out, along with 22 fouls in the game. 

The Owls prevailed and left Redding with the "Sky Cup" as they avenged their loss from last year's match-up. 

Jacopo Trolese notched two saves but suffered the loss in the post, while Gonzalez led the team with three shots, one on goal that just missed being the equalizer. 

The boys are back in action this Thursday on the road this Thursday as they take on Bushnell University at 2 pm.
