FULLERTON, Calif. - The men's basketball squad continued conference play tonight as they took on Westcliff University.
The boys are in a must win-situation situation as they approach the final two conference games of the season as they make a push for a Cal Pac playoff spot.
A layup by
Jace Mills got the scoring going as a three-pointer by
DaMari Tate gave Simpson the early 5-2 lead.
However, the Warriors kept it rolling as they took the 15-point lead as a three-pointer by
Drey Ubas pulled Simpson back within 12 points.
A layup by
Timothy Parker to close out the first half saw Simpson trail 38-23 going into the half.
Ubas had a team-high six points in the first half as he drilled two three-pointers.
The Warriors grew its largest lead of the game to 21 points with just under fifteen minutes left in regulation.
The Red Hawks began to chip away as they hit back-to-back three-pointers by
Trey Conrad and Tate to cut the lead to 15 points.
Back-to-back buckets by Conrad followed by two free throws by Ubas pulled the Red Hawks within 12 points with just under nine minutes left in the game.
A three-pointer by Tate with just over four minutes left pulled Simpson back within single digits as they trailed 64-55.
Simpson pulled within five points on a jump shot by Conrad with two minutes left. But this proved to be the last gasp for Simpson as the Warriors extended its lead back to nine points as they took the game 74-63 on a couple of late buckets.
Ubas posted a team-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds as he shot a perfect 10-10 from the line.
Conrad had another solid game off the bench as he picked up 14 points and four rebounds.
Simpson clashes with the Golden Eagles on Saturday night at 8:45 pm to close out the regular season in a game with major playoff implications.
