REDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball squad entered its final game of the year in a "win and in" situation as they took on La Sierra.
Simpson had two options to qualify for the Cal Pac tournament, a win against La Sierra or a loss by Cal Maritime.Â
A three-pointer by
Drey Ubas got Simpson on the board before back-to-back buckets by
Jace Mills pulled Simpson within four of the Golden Eagles' 11-7 lead.Â
The Red Hawks went on a 13-1 run on buckets by
Timothy Parker,
Osumanu Nuhu, and
Trey Conrad to regain the 20-14 lead.Â
Another three-pointer by Ubas gave Simpson the three-point lead as a dunk by Parker followed by a three-pointer by
Jack Jillson extended the Red Hawk's 37-31 lead to close out the first half.Â
But the Golden Eagles started the second half on an 8-0 run to take the two-point lead before a layup by Parker tied the game at 39.Â
The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead on its following possession and never looked back as they never relinquished the lead and took the game 90-83.Â
Ubas had a solid game to end his collegiate career as he posted a team-high 27 points as he shot 50% from beyond the arc. He also eclipsed the 1,000-point club for his collegiate career.Â
Parker notched 17 points as Mills followed close behind with 16 points in his final game in a Red Hawks uniform.Â
With the loss, and a win by Cal Maritime against Pacific Union, the Red Hawks are eliminated from playoff contention.Â
