Late free throws by Marshall propels Simpson over Life Pacific

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - The women's basketball squad edged Life Pacific tonight in a 66-65 thriller. 

Anna Marshall started the games scoring as she drilled a three-pointer on Simpson's first offensive possession of the game. 

Simpson extended its lead late in the first quarter as Destiny Nicholos posted three points while Andrea Perez posted the final points for Simpson in the first quarter to give Simpson the 23-16 lead before the Warriors pulled within two to begin the second quarter. 

The second quarter featured a battle between the Red Hawks and Warriors as four lead changes took place with the Red Hawks holding onto the two-point lead going into the half as Monet Dunham hit a free throw while Nicholos converted on a fastbreak layup. 

The Warrior scored the first two buckets of the second half before Mariah Bowles tied the game at 40 on a layup. 

However, the third quarter featured a defensive battle as both teams combined for 21 points with the Warriors clinging to the 48-47 lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Lupe Lemus converted on a tough bucket in the paint as she drew the foul to finish the three-point play to give the Red Hawks the 50-48 lead, as Te'Niyah Lindsey added two free throws to extend the lead. 

The Warriors nailed a late three-pointer to take the 65-62 lead as Cerina Nguyen hit a mid-range jumper to pull Simpson within one with 43 seconds left in the game. 

The Simpson defense made a huge stop and got the ball back with 20 seconds left. 

Marshall drove to the hoop and drew the crucial shooting foul to set up the game-winning free throws. 

She played hero as she nailed both free throws to give the Warriors the ball back with two seconds on the clock as the Red Hawks held onto the 66-65 victory. 

Marshall led the team with 17 points as she went 3-5 from beyond the arc. 

Nicholos followed close behind with 15 points as she led the team with five assists. 

Perez rounded out the double-digit performers as she collected 10 points while shooting 4-7 from the floor. 

Simpson looks to be back in action tomorrow as they take on Bethesda at 2 pm to conclude their SoCal road trip.
