ASHLAND, Ore. - The women's basketball squad kicked off play tonight in Ashland, OR, as they took on Oregon Tech in the first day of the Raider Classic.
A layup by
Destiny Nicholos got the game's scoring started in the opening minute of play.Â
The Owls jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before the Red Hawks tied the game at 13 on a three-pointer by
Moriah Bowles.Â
Simpson grabbed the two-point advantage on a steal by
Anna Marshall as she found Nicholos in transition for a reverse layup.Â
The Owls and Red Hawks exchanged buckets to begin the second quarter to remain even. However, the Owls went on to dominate the second quarter as they outscored Simpson 20-4 to go into the half with a 33-19 lead.Â
A layup by
Cerina Nguyen got Simpson on the board in the second half, but the Owls continued to roll as they held the 30-point lead going into the fourth quarter.Â
Nguyen and Nicholos anchored the Red Hawks' final quarter as they combined to score 11 points, but could not overcome the deficit as they fell in day one of the Raider Classic 84-50.Â
Nicholos led the team with 20 points while shooting 10-17 from the floor.Â
Nguyen just missed a double-double as she posted a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.Â
Simpson looks to bounce back tomorrow as they take on Southern Oregon at 6:30 pm.Â
