Simpson draws with the Pioneers

ANGWIN, Calif. - The women's soccer team battled the Pacific Union College Pioneers to a 1-1 draw today.

The Red Hawks nearly got on the board in the 4th minute to begin the game as Nadia Santiago took a shot that hit the post.

However, the Red Hawks and Pioneers held each other off the scoreboard as the Pioneers outshot the Red Hawks 9-6 in the first half, as goalkeeper Iris Van Dalfsen posted four saves.

The Pioneers drew first blood in the 53rd minute before the Pioneers committed a costly foul in the box to give Simpson a penalty kick opportunity.

Nadia Santiago converted on the penalty kick to score the equalizer in the 54th minute.

Pacific Union nearly took the lead in the 81st minute as the shot rang off the post.

Litsy Munoz took the final shot of the day for Simpson but missed wide to keep the game at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.

Santiago drilled her fifth goal of the season while Dalfsen posted seven saves between the posts.

Simpson returns to play on October 30th against Stanton University at 10 am at the California Soccer Park.
