REDDING, Calif – The Red Hawks were held to a draw on home soil as they were unable to break through a stern Elk defense.
A 0-0 scoreline in a game where Simpson had a whopping 20 shots to Stanton's two left the Red Hawks pondering missed opportunities.
Iris Van Dalfsen, who has seven goals on the season, started the game in goal once again. The Dutch player has been a pillar for Simpson on both sides of the ball.
During the first half, the Red Hawks pressed, occupying the visiting Elks' half for most of the period. Missed chances by
Rachel Steele and
Claire Brown put the teams in a gridlock at halftime.
The second half featured a lot of the same, as Simpson pressed for a goal. Redding native and freshman
Madison Edwards played a big role down the left side for Simpson, creating chances for the Red Hawks all throughout the second half.
Though they pushed, the Red Hawks were unable to penetrate Prima Nikornnarong's goal, as last week's defensive player of the week kept a crucial clean sheet.
Simpson enters Saturday's senior night game as a lock for the #2 seed in the playoffs. They will play the #1 seed and undefeated, Westcliff University Warriors at the Redding Soccer Park this Saturday at 5 pm.
