Simpson Draws with D2 Opponent Dominican University

REDDING, Calif. - The women's soccer squad took on PacWest D2 opponent Dominican University of California tonight under the lights at the California Soccer Park.

The Red Hawks and Penguins took part in a tightly matched game that saw both defenses on display all night.

Both defenses highlighted tonight's matchup as they held each other's attackers in check all game.

The first half of play saw Dominican with the advantage of having five shots compared to Simpson's two.

But Simpson's keeper Kiah Gridley did not budge as she held the perfect clean sheet in the first half.

The second half saw a chippy and fierce game between these two squads as six combined cards were handed out.

The Penguins came close to breaking the scoreless game in the 83rd minute but Gridley made an outstanding sliding save on a one-and-one matchup with a Penguin attacker to keep the game scoreless.

Kayla Arias-Lerma took the final shot of the game in the 85th minute but missed wide to the right.

The Red Hawks and Penguins settled for the draw as both teams remained off the scoreboard.

Gridley kept the clean sheet in the post as she picked up two saves as she earned the tie.

Alyssa Trevino and Rachel Sequeira picked up one shot on goal each to lead the Simpson attackers.

With the tie, Simpson rounds out its preseason play going 2-3-1 with its conference opener against Providence Christian on Sept. 27th in SoCal.
