PASADENA, Calif. - The Red Hawks began conference play today in Pasadena, CA as they took on Providence Christian College.
The Red Hawks are riding high as they are coming off a 0-0 draw against D2 opponent Dominican University of California last week.
Simpson drew first blood in the 10th minute as
Claire Brown picked up Simpson's first conference goal on her second goal of the year to give SU the early lead.
Brown found the back of the net off a loose ball that went off the hands of the Sea Beggar's goalkeeper on a shot from
Litsy Munoz.
But Providence struck right before the half in the 36th minute on a header off a free kick that got over the outstretched arms of Simpson goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley.
The Red Hawks had a busy first half as they outshot the Sea Beggars 9-2 but went into the half-tied.
Providence took the lead in the 52nd minute as they converted on a penalty kick following a crucial foul in the box by the Red Hawks.
With less than ten minutes left the Red Hawks caught fire and scored the equalizer in the 87 minute on a goal by
Litsy Munoz.
Munoz picked up her second goal of the year off a nice pass by
Denise Elias-Martinez.
With the final seconds winding down the Red Hawks scored the difference maker off the foot of Martinez for the game-winner to propel Simpson over Providence 3-2.

Denise Elias-Martinez each picked up their first conference goals of the season.
Goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley picked up the win to move to 1-0 in conference play and 3-2-1 on the year.
Simpson looks to stay hot as they take on Westcliff University on Sunday at 11 am.
