REDDING, Calif. - The men's soccer squad picked up its first win of the year as they defeated Oregon Tech 2-0.
The Red Hawks avenged its loss earlier in the season as they fell to OIT 4-2 in its season opener in Klamath Falls, OR.
Simpson got on the board early in the opening minute as
Jesus Rodriguez notched his first goal of the year off a pass by
Bryan Ortiz.
But Rodriguez struck again as he scored in the 15th minute as an Owl defender fell down to give Rodriguez the open look. Once again an Ortiz to Rodriguez combo scored Simpson's second goal of the game.
The SU defense kept the Owls attackers at bay, as they allowed just four shots in the first half. Simpson had the edge as they out shot the Owls 5-4.
In his first start of the year
Eric Canela preserved a clean sheet in the first half as he notched three saves.
The Red Hawks defense did not budge all game as they held the Owl attackers in check all day long.
The Owls had the advantage in the second half as they outshot the Red Hawks 4-3 but Canela stayed strong in the post as he notched two saves in the second half.

Jesus Rodriguez had himself quite the day as he earned the brace with two goals on the day while
Bryan Ortiz notched two assists.
With the win, Simpson won the "Sky Cup" game and looks to be back in action this Sunday against Bushnell University at 11 am.
