REDDING, Calif. - The men's soccer squad rounded out the weekend as they took on Bushnell University today in a nonconference matchup.
The Red Hawks are coming off a huge win on Friday against Oregon Tech as they won the "Sky Cup" match.
Simpson looked to get on the board first as
Anthony Hernandez put the first shot on goal in the 16th minute on a deflected pass but could not find the back of the net.
The Beacons drew first blood in the 28th minute to grab the early 1-0 lead.
The Bushnell attackers kept Simpson's goalkeeper busy in the first half as he notched four saves.
But the Beacons went into the half with a 1-0 lead as they outshot Simpson 7-3.
The Red Hawks looked to bounce back in the second half as
Gio De La Torre led the attackers with two shots on goals in the 55th and 61st minutes.
De La Torre came close to netting the equalizing shot in the 61st minute as he had one man to beat but a nice defensive slide from the Bushnell defender helped keep Simpson off the board.
The Beacons added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute on a long pass that allowed the Bushnell attacker to get by the Simpson keeper Canela for the score.
The Red Hawks attackers could not find the back of the net as they fell 2-0 against the Beacons on this Sunday afternoon to round out its preseason play.
Eric Canela took the loss as he moves to 1-1 on the year in the post while notching eight saves on the day.
Gio De La Torre and
Anthony Hernandez paced the Red Hawk attackers as they combined for three shots on goals.
Simpson looks to kick off conference play on September 27th at 12:30 pm on the road against Providence Christian.
