Simpson Falls to OIT as They Get Ready for the Cal Pac Tourney

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The baseball team headed north for a midweek matchup against Oregon Tech to conclude its 2024 regular season schedule.

Left-hander Chad Horton earned his second start of the year against RV Oregon Tech.

A lead-off double by Dylan Leek helped set up a Logan Gomes two-run shot to give Simpson the early lead. This marked the 16th home run of the year for Gomes as he added to his single-season and career record.

The Red Hawks kept it rolling as they loaded the bases on a single by Micah Kele, a hit-by-pitch to Brady Meeds, and a walk to Andreyes Palacios. A team at-bat by Chase Rossman pushed across the second run of the game on a RBI groundout.

OIT cut the lead in the next half-inning as they plated one run on three hits.

But the Red Hawks got that run back in the top of the second inning on a RBI double by Gomes to score Leek.

However, the Owls got the bats going in the following innings as they scored in every inning from the third inning on.

The Owls's biggest inning came in the bottom of the fourth inning when they plated six runs on four hits and one Red Hawk error to grab the 8-5 lead.

Simpson chipped away as they plated one run in the top of the fifth inning on a solo shot by Andreyes Palacios

But the Red Hawks offense stayed quiet as the Owls offense got hot. Simpson mustered two hits over the next four innings and surrendered six runs to drop the contest 15-6.

Simpson got multi-hit performances by Dylan Leek, Logan Gomes, and Brandon Zanni. The trio combined for six hits, three runs scored, three RBIs, and three extra-base hits.

A Look Ahead:

Simpson ends the season with a 19-27 record and with a spectacular 14-7 conference record. Simpson is locked in as the #3 seed heading into the Cal Pac tournament that will take place next week (May 1-3) at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, AZ.

As the #3 seed, they will take on #2 Embry-Riddle on day one of the tournament. Simpson looks to avenge its conference series loss to the Eagles back in mid-March.
