Simpson drops road match to RV UC Merced

MERCED, Calif. - The Simpson University women's squad came into the night looking to keep pace in the Cal Pac playoff race as they took on RV UC Merced. 

The Red Hawks and Bobcats played a clean first half that displayed both team's defenses as they held each other off the scoreboard. 

Both teams combined for 10 shots in the first half but none were on goal as both goalkeepers preserved its clean sheet. 

The Bobcats struck first in the second half as UC Merced found the back of the net in the 61st minute to grab the 1-0 lead. 

The Simpson attackers could not get things going against the Bobcats as they were outshot 12-0. 

Goalkeeper Kiah Gridley fared well as she had her hands full in the second half as she notched five saves. 

The Bobcats added a late goal in the 89th minute to hold on and preserve the 2-0 victory. 

Litsy Munoz, Kylie Hokanson, and Taylor Brooks reeled off Simpson's three shots of the night. 

With the loss, Simpson holds the fourth and final playoff spot as they are 0.5 games up from La Sierra.

Simpson looks to close out the season this Sunday as they take on Pacific Union College at 10 am in a major game that holds major playoff implications for the fourth Cal Pac spot.
