SANTA CRUZ, Calif - The Simpson University swim team took part in the Slug Shootout held by UC Santa Cruz this past weekend to open the year. 

Teo Barthelemy highlighted the Red Hawk swimmers as he finished 9th in the 50 backstroke race and just missed an eight-place finish by two-one hundredths of a second. 

Everyone posted a solid and respectable time for the first meet of the year. 

Coach Friesen liked what he saw this past weekend at the Slug Shootout. 

"It was good to see where everyone is at and what we need to work on before our next meet." 

Simpson looks to be back in action on November 1st for a scrimmage against Shasta College.
