REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's squad celebrated 11 seniors before its game against Soka University today.
The Red Hawks honored, Illiana Solis,
Kayla Arias-Lerma,
Izabella Baez, Denis Elias-Martinez,
Paola Montoya,
Kiah Gridley,
Taylor Deveraux,
Yisel Ybarra,
Kylie Hokanson,
Jessica Sonnen, and
Alyssa Trevino in its senior ceremony before the game.
The Lions drew first blood in the 31st minute as they found the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead.
The Red Hawks and Lions had its defenses on full display as they combined for three total shots in the first half.
But Simpson rallied in the second half as they outshot Soka 6-0 as they spent much of the time in Lion's territory.
The equalizer came off the foot of
Chloe Tague in the 80th minute off a pass from
Litsy Munoz.
However, both teams held each other off the scoreboard for the rest of the game as it ended in a 1-1 tie.
Goalkeeper
Kiah Gridley picked up the tie in the post while
Chloe Tague picked up her fifth goal of the year.
With the tie, Simpson moves up half a game and holds a one-game lead over La Sierra for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Simpson looks to move up in the Cal Pac standings as they take on UC Merced this Thursday at 5 pm at Bobcat Field.
