IRVINE, Calif. - The Simpson University women's volleyball squad took on Westcliff University tonight to kick off its SoCal road trip.
Going into the night the Red Hawks looked to gain ground on UC Merced and Providence Christian in the Cal Pac standings.
Three straight kills to open the game by
Mallory Swenson,
Katie Graham, and
Mariah Napoleon gave Simpson the early lead.
The Red Hawks continued to roll as they jumped out to the 22-13 lead late in the first set.
A kill by Swenson capped off the first set 25-17 victory as they grabbed the 1-0 match lead.
The Red Hawks carried the momentum into the second set as took the commanding 9-0 lead on two aces by Tataryn Mackenzie and kills by Napoleon and
Tiara Manns.
Simpson continued to dominate the Warriors as they took set two 25-15 on a kill by Napoleon.
The Red Hawks looked for the straight-set victory as a tandem block by Swenson and
Katie Graham opened the third set.
With the score 12-9 in favor of the Red Hawks, Simpson scored five straight points to take the 17-9 lead on an ace by
Madison Kammuller and a kill by Swenson.
Simpson took set three 25-13 convincingly to take the match in straight sets.
Mallory Swenson had herself a night as she had a team-high 10 kills to go along with a stellar .429 hitting percentage.
Tataryn Mackenzie and Abigail Shackleford combined for 26 assists, four aces, and 12 digs at the setter spot.
Katie Graham had a big game in the net as she notched five total blocks and six kills.
Madison Kammuller had a solid game with 15 digs to go along with two aces.
With the win, Simpson kept pace and is now one game behind Providence Christian and UC Merced for the top spot in the Cal Pac standings.
Simpson continues its SoCal road trip tomorrow as they take on La Sierra at noon.
