SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The women's soccer squad has a bye in conference play this week as they took on D3 opponent UC Santa Cruz today in a non-conference match.
The Banana Slugs drew first blood in the opening minutes as they took the early lead.
Santa Cruz added an insurance goal in the 26th minute as they converted on a penalty kick to take advantage of a Red Hawks foul in the box.
Simpson cut the lead in half as they scored in the 36th minute on
Chloe Tague's third goal of the year.
Tague's goal came off a pass from
Litsy Munoz as they caught the Banana Slugs goalkeeper leaning.
But the Banana Slugs answered back as they scored less than a minute later to take the 3-1 advantage.
Santa Cruz struck one more time right before the half in the waning minutes to take the commanding 4-1 lead.
The Banana Slugs came out of the haf rolling as they scored in the 56th minute to take the 5-1 lead.
UC Santa Cruz put the finishing touches as they scored in the final seconds to take the 6-1 victory.
The Santa Cruz defense suffocated the Simpson attackers as they outshot them, 15-3.

Chloe Tague picked up Simpson's lone goal in the 36th minute on her team-leading third goal of the year.
Simpson looks to pick up conference action this coming Friday on the road against Cal Maritime at 7:30 pm.
