REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team dropped its final preseason game against Warner Pacific University. The Knights held off a fierce Red Hawk comeback in the final minutes to hold onto the 2-1 victory.
The Knights struck first in the 4th minute of play off the ensuing corner kick. Simpson's attackers outshot Warner Pacific in the first half 14-4 but were unable to find the back of the net.
Warner Pacific struck again in the 56th minute when a high bouncer hopped over the outstretched arms of goalie Briana Whitehurst.Â
However, a late Red Hawk charge sparked a late comeback when
Chloe Tague found the back of the net on a perfectly placed shot over to the upper left-hand corner of the net in the 89th minute.Â
Simpson's last gasp of air came in the final seconds when a Warner Pacific foul allowed for a free kick about 30Â yards out. However, Bedolla-Guzman's kick sailed to the right of the post where the Knights goalie could coral it in.Â
The Red Hawks finished the preseason going a respectable 1-2-2 against a number of tough Cascade Conference opponents. The Red Hawks will hope to carry the late-game momentum into its conference opener this Thursday against the University of Antelope Valley at 11 AM in Lancaster, CA.Â
