RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Red Hawks and Golden Eagles jostled back and forth for a 2-2 tie.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the 14th minute of play to kick off the first half.
However, Simpson answered back late in the first half when midfielder
Michel Hampe scored his third goal of the season, to tie the score at one.
The second half was highly contested as the 1-1 deadlock prevailed until a La Sierra goal in the 87th minute.
Things looked grim for the Red Hawks with less than three minutes remaining of regulation.
The final seconds included a strike by Hampe but well defended by the Golden Eagles Keeper. This set up a key corner kick with five seconds remaining.
Senior Jaime Velasco played hero as he delivered the equalizing shot on the corner kick in the winding seconds of the game.
The Red Hawks finished the road trip going 1-0-1 to start conference play. They will return home this week to take on California Maritime on Friday at 2:30 PM.
