PORTLAND, OR - Simpson University men's and women's track and field headed north this past weekend to compete at Lewis & Clark College.

On the men's side, Liam Oliver finished tied for 4th place in the high jump 6 feet and .25 inches, setting a season-best, with attempts at 6'2 that were nearly perfect but barely knocked off the bar with his legs.

He also set his season best in the long jump with a jump of 6.19 meters to claim 5th place overall.

Despite a hamstring injury on his first attempt, Jake Corontzos managed to take 4th place overall in the men's triple jump.

Brandon Hall started the day strong with a second-place finish in his heat for the 100-meter dash, also setting his season best at 11.8 seconds, knocking off considerable time from his last race a week ago. In the 200-meter race, Hall took a commanding lead from the start but suffered an injury mid-race that affected the results.

For the women's side, Elizabeth Aleo competed in both the women's discus and shot put on Saturday. Fighting through an injury, she threw 75'10 in the discus and 27'10 in the shot put. 

Joy Taylor raced her second-ever 1500-meter race and nearly tied her personal best from the previous week at 5:34. She went on to double later that day with an 800-meter race and also tied her time from the previous week.

Amanda Simpson competed in 3 races in the meet, the 200, 400, 800, where she set season bests in two of those events.

After making steady progress throughout the season, it is evident that the team will be hitting their stride in perfect time for the conference championships next week down at Soka University in Southern California. The small but powerful crew is clearly ready to make a statement as the season reaches its peak.
