Simpson Wins One of Three Against Bushnell in their First Home Series

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks’ first home series of the season did not go the way they wanted, losing two of three to Bushnell.

In game one, Eric Winchester had another productive start going six innings with 11 strikeouts and giving up two earned runs. The Red Hawks were able to tie up the score with a three-run 8th inning. Braxton King hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Mickey Nunes. Micah Kele and Brett Johnson had a pair of singles to score the two runs that would make the game 5-5 going into the ninth. SU collapsed in the 9th inning, allowing seven runs. Bushnell barrelled the ball with a three-run double and a two-run homer to right field. Simpson lost 12-6.

 

The Red Hawks had a 5-3 going into the 6th inning. With two outs in the inning, Bushnell scored two runs on a throwing error from the third basemen. Simpson missed an opportunity to score in the bottom of the inning after Logan Gomes got stranded on third base after hitting a triple. Bushnell would score the deciding run in the game after a bases-loaded hit by pitch to make the score 6-5. 

 

Simpson had 13 hits in the game-three win over Bushnell. SU’s offense started quickly, scoring three runs in the 1st inning. Titus Sato hit a single into right-center field, scoring two runners. In a first and third situation, Titus Sato was caught stealing at first base allowing Braxton King to score from third. Micah Kele led the team with four RBIs in the game. Kele hit a two-run single in the 2nd inning. He later hit another single, scoring Jesse Coats in the sixth. A sacrifice fly scored Kele’s fourth RBI. Brady Meeds went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, providing one of the sparks for the Red Hawks’ offense on Saturday. Senituli Taufehema went 3-for-5 and scored one of Simpson’s runs. On the bump, Connor Caporale pitched five innings giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts. SU secured the win in the final game 7-4.

 

The Red Hawks’ next series is against Academy of Art University at home starting this Friday, Feb. 24, at 12 p.m.
