Simpson Wins Third Straight in Conference Play

REDDING, Calif. - The women's basketball team extended its conference win streak to three games after they defeated Cal State Maritime, 86-55. 
 
 


The Red Hawks got off to a hot start as Celina Tress converted on two free throws followed by a Rory Hetrick layup to put Simpson up 4-0 to start the game. 

Natalie Brown had a solid first period coming off the bench as she went 3-3 from the floor as she hit two mid-range jumpers to go along with a fastbreak layup on a steal. 

Hetrick would close out the first period on a deep three-pointer to extend Simpson's lead to 11 points, 19-8. 

Celina Tress would highlight the Red Hawks in the second period as she registered seven points while shooting 3-4 from the floor. 

Simpson would close out the half in style as Rachel Gafford nailed a jumper with time expiring to pad Simpson's lead to 24 points. 

The Red Hawk's three-headed monster, Tress, Hetrick, and Brown opened the second half with the team's first 11 points. 

The trio would power the Red Hawks offense in the third period as they combined for 18 of the team's 23 points. 

Simpson would head into the fourth and final period with a commanding 29-point lead. 

Kayla Morgan would join the scoring as she converted a layup on Simpson's first possession. 

Senior Riley Wallen would have the hot hand in the fourth period as she posted a team-high eight points while shooting 3-6 from the floor and 2-4 from beyond the arc. 

Simpson would close out the game 86-55 as they dominated in every aspect of the game. 

The Red Hawks had the advantage over the Keelhaulers in second-chance points, points off turnovers, bench points, and points in the paint. 

Rory Hetrick had a season-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds and six assists while shooting an outstanding 9-13 from the floor. 

Celina Tress had a solid game in the paint as she recorded 15 points to go along with five rebounds, one block, and four steals while shooting 6-9 from the floor. 

Natalie Brown had quite the game off the bench as she provided 13 points while shooting a near-perfect 6-7 from the floor. 

With the win, Simpson improved its conference record to 3-1 as they now hold sole possession of third place in the Cal Pac standings. 

They will take a break from conference play as they are scheduled to play three non-conference games against Chico State (Dec. 19th), Lincoln University (Dec. 22nd), and William Jessup (Dec. 30th) to round out the month of December.
