Simpson Rolls Past Pioneers

ANGWIN, Calif. - The women's basketball team continued to stay hot as they extended its two-game win streak by defeating Pacific Union College 72-34. 
 
 


Celina Tress opened the night's scoring with a mid-range jumper to put Simpson on the board. 

The Red Hawks got off to a fast start as they grabbed a 10-1 lead and finished the first quarter with a 23-8 lead. 

Hannah Parsons had a strong first quarter of play as she had a team-high six points while hitting two three-pointers. 

Tress and Dyani Del Castillo also had a solid first quarter as they each recorded four points. 

Castillo opened the second period by nailing a three-pointer to extend Simpson's lead 26-8. 

Rory Hetrick followed shortly after with a bucket of her own from way downtown. 

Simpson was firing on all cylinders as they held the Pioneers to just six points while posting four steals and two blocks. 

Tress would once again start the half's scoring on a layup to pad Simpson's lead to 24 points. 

Hetrick had the hot hand in the third period as she had a team-high six points.

Castillo capped off the third period of scoring for the Red Hawks with a layup. 

However, she led the way on defense with a team-high six rebounds.

Simpson looked to put the game away as they held a commanding 29-point lead heading into the fourth and final period of play. 

Parsons and Riley Wallen opened the final period of play with back-to-back layups. 

Simpson would preserve its commanding lead and seal the 72-34 victory over the Pioneers. 

The Red Hawks dominated the Pioneers in most aspects of the game; field goal shooting, three-point shooting, and rebounds. 

Hannah Parsons had quite the night off the bench as she posted a team-high 13 points while shooting 5-8 from the floor. 

Tress followed close behind with 12 points to go along with four rebounds. 

Hetrick would round out the double-digit scorers as she posted 11 points to go along with three rebounds. 

Dyani Del Castillo had an outstanding game in the paint as she had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points. 

Simpson will look to stay hot as they come home to play Cal Maritime Academy on Friday at 5:30 PM.
