ANGWIN, Calif. - The men's basketball team walked out of Angwin, CA with a 74-66 come from behind victory over Cal Pac rival Pacific Union College.
Drey Ubas got the night's scoring with a layup in the opening minute of play.
But the Pioneers would grab the early 10-4 lead over the Red Hawks.
Back-to-back three-pointers by
Kellen Torrey and
Trey Conrad would tie the game at 12.
Simpson would grab the 14-12 lead on a mid-range jump shot by
Sam Shields.
The Red Hawks and Pioneers would go back and forth for the rest of the half.
A 7-1 Pioneer run to end the half would put PUC in front 37-31.
The two big men in the paint,
Sam Shields and
Garrett Streufert had a solid first half as they combined for 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Simpson would get on the board in the second half with a couple of
Osumanu Nuhu free throws to cut into the Pioneers lead.
The Pioneers would extend its largest lead of the night to 16 points with twelve and a half minutes of play.
A 16-0 Red Hawks run qued by a layup by
Akin Branco would spring Simpson back into the game.
Capped off by a layup by Streuffert would give Simpson the 56-55 lead with just over five minutes left.
A 14-6 Simpson run would end the game and put Simpson on the winning side of the 74-66 score.
Drey Ubas continues to stay hot as he recorded a team-high 16 points and five steals.
Streuffert had a solid game as well as he registered 13 points to go along with 11 rebounds.
Simpson will look to keep the momentum rolling as they take on Cal Maritime this Friday at 7:30 PM.
