Simpson Caps off Preseason With Win Over Lincoln

REDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball team finished its preseason schedule with a huge win over Lincoln University 77-72.

The Red Hawks flipped the script and avenged its loss earlier last week against Lincoln University down in Oakland.

Simpson drew first blood as Osumanu Nuhu hit a layup to start the nights scoring.

It would be a back-and-forth contest throughout the night as Lincoln and Simpson exchanged buckets.

Lincoln would find themselves up by as much as six points on two separate occasions.

But Trey Conrad had key buckets at the end of ther first half to pull the Red Hawks even at 38 heading into the half.

Conrad converted on nine points to end the first half with a jumper to tie the game with 12 seconds left on the clock.

Jace Mills had a big first half in the paint as he had a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds.

Conrad proved to be lethal off the bench as he recorded nine points while going 4-4 from the line.

Parker Martens got the second half scoring started for the Red Hawks as he converted on a key layup to tie the game.

Shortly after, Kevin Robello banged home a three to put Simpson out on front over Lincoln, 43-40.

However, the game would go down to the wire as the momentum jumped back-and-forth.

First year Head Coach David Cone went head to head with legendary NBA star Lincoln Coach Gary Payton, as they strategically called timeouts to sway the momentum to rally the troops.

The Red Hawks defense stepped up in the late minutes as they shielded off Lincoln's late rally.

Simpson found itself up 73-71 with less than two minutes. A key Lincoln foul with under one minute of play gave the Red Hawks the ball in the hopes of sealing the win.

Drey Ubas hit the dagger that sealed the win as he converted on a key mid-range jumper with the shot clock running down to extend Simpson's lead to a two possession game.

Simpson flexed its muscle as they had four players record double digit games.

Trey Conrad had a huge game as he had a team high 20 points as he shot 6-10 from the floor.

Jace Mills had a quiet second half but still finished the night with 14 points while shooting 6-8 from the floor to go along with eight rebounds.

Following close behind was Sam Shields and Parker Martens who each recorded 12 points for a combined 11 rebounds.

Simpson will look to keep the momentum rolling into conference play as they open up against Embry-Riddle next week Thursday at home at 7:30 PM.
