CALDWELL, Id. - The women's basketball team traveled to Caldwell, ID to partake in the Best Western Caldwell INN and Suites Classic hosted by the College of Idaho.
The Red Hawks defeated the host school, the College of Idaho 55-45 to kick off the two-day classic.
The Yotes jumped out to a 4-0 lead to open the game.
But a jump shot and three-pointer by
Natalie Brown helped Simpson grab the lead that would not vanquish for the rest of the first period.
Simpson would hold onto the lead and go up by as much as nine points in the first half.
But a 10-0 Yotes run helped them overcome and take the lead by one with two minutes left in the first half.
Sophomore
Anna Marshall broke the Yotes run with a key layup late to put the Red Hawks back in front as they headed into the half with a one-point lead, 22-21.
Marshall, Brown and Dyanni Del Castillo had a solid third quarter as they each recorded five points.
Simpson was able to create some breathing room in the third period as they outscored the Yotes 20-15 to grab a six-point lead heading into the final quarter.
The Red Hawks never looked back as they outscored the Yotes in the fourth quarter 13-9 to put the game away, 55-45.
Simpson dominated the floor as they outshot the Yotes in FG% and three-point FG% while also outrebounding them 39-33.
Anna Marshall,
Natalie Brown, and
Rory Hetrick led the Red Hawks with ten points and four rebounds a piece.
The women will look to keep the momentum rolling as they play Eastern Oregon University tomorrow at 12 PM PST.
