RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The women's team started its SoCal road trip on the right foot as they defeated La Sierra University in straight sets tonight.
The first set was a true thriller as the Red Hawks found themselves behind the eight-ball for much of the set.
Simpson faced a grueling 18-22 deficit late in the set. But a fierce Red Hawk rally helped push the set past its standard 25 points.
Katie Graham put the finishing touches on the first set as she slammed a kill to end the set 26-24 in favor of Simpson.
Simpson carried the momentum into set two as they held total control. The Red Hawks retained the lead for the entire set as they only lost the lead once.
But the Golden Eagles fought back in set three. The Red Hawks and Golden Eagles jostled back and forth as they exchanged points.
Freshman
Tiara Manns played a big role in set three as she accounted for key kills and the final kill to put the game away.
Manns had a solid game as she led the team with 16 kills to go along with three total blocks.
Kayla Somontan had another quality game as she registered 30 assists to go along with eight digs.
With the win and Providence losing tonight the Red Hawks jumped back into the sixth and final playoff spot as they hold a 0.5 GB lead over the Sea Beggars.
Simpson will continue its SoCal road trip tomorrow when they take on Westcliff at 7 PM.
