IRVINE, Calif. - The women's volleyball team dropped the second game of its SoCal road trip to Cal Pac rival Westcliff University, 3-1 in four sets.
The Warriors drew first blood as they took the opening set by the score of 25-21. But the Red Hawks came out firing as they jumped on the Warriors for an early 3-0 lead.
However, the Warriors answered back with a 5-0 run. This was the story of set one as both teams jostled back and forth. Unfortunately, the Red Hawks found themselves on the wrong side of a 25-21 score.
The second set was all Simpson as the Red Hawks never relinquished the lead to go on to take set two by the score of 25-13.
Westcliff returned the favor in set three to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Red Hawks started slow as the Warriors grabbed a 7-2 lead. But Simpson fought back to pull within three points after a 6-0 run.
Ultimately the Warriors were able to hold off the fierce Red Hawk rally to secure the set 25-19 to seal the game.
Mallory Swenson had a team-high 12 kills to go along with five total blocks and 22 digs.
Madison Kammuller played solid defense as she recorded a team-high 28 digs on the night.
Kayla Somontan had another solid game as she registered 36 assists and 21 digs.
The Red Hawks currently sit in the sixth playoff spot with a 0.5-game lead over Westcliff.
Simpson will conclude its road trip tomorrow when they take on the University of Antelope Valley at 5 PM.
