PARK, Ariz. - Simpson University men's basketball completed an extremely tough road trip, picking up two wins out of three and closing the trip with an 81-70 victory over Park-Gilbert.
The Red Hawks have now won four out of five games and have vaulted up in the standings, sitting just two games out of 3rd place.
Not only did SU record the win, but
Daylon Potts also shattered a conference record with a ground-breaking performance grabbing a whopping 26 rebounds. The previous record was set by Taureaus Maxwell from Pacific Union College in 2016. Potts also added seven points in the dominating showing on the glass.
The performance is even more impressive considering that Potts is not a giant on the post, but at 6 foot 5 he relies on his effort and will to bring down rebounds.
Kevin Robello and
Drey Ubas led SU offensively in the win. Robello netted 18 points and Ubas scored 17.
Morgan Cox and
Akin Branco also finished in double figures for the Red Hawks helping Simpson edge out the 11-point win.
The Red Hawks will return home for a three-game week beginning with a non-conference game on Wednesday against Portland Bible College followed by Saint Katherine and Westcliff on Thursday and Saturday. Simpson remains focused on moving up the standings in hopes of the best seeding possible heading into the Cal Pac Conference tournament.
