Men's Basketball Holds on to Lead in Close One vs. Cal Maritime

VALLEJO, Calif. - Simpson held off a late push from Cal Maritime to secure the win, 70-65.

 

The Red Hawks came out hot with a 9-0 run at the beginning of the game, propelling them to a 44-32 lead at halftime. 

 

Drey Ubas was the team's leading scorer with 21 points, making eight field goals and four from beyond the arc. Morgan Cox scored 17 points going 5-for-14 from the field and sinking five three-pointers. Javonntie Jackson had 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

 

Cal Maritime began to shave down Simpson's lead in the second period and was within three points of Simpson with seconds left. After getting fouled, Kevin Robello dropped two free throws putting Cal Maritime out of reach with seven seconds left on the clock and securing the win for the Red Hawks.

 

Simpson will have a home game against Pacific Union College on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 8:30 pm.
