REDDING, Calif. - The men's basketball team had a dominant showing tonight as they took down Lincoln University 108-86.
The Red Hawks scored at will in the first half, posting 63 points while shooting 74% from the floor and 80% from beyond the arc as a team.
Kellen Torrey played a huge role off the bench, posting a team-high 16 points in the first half. He drained 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 6-of-7 from the floor, proving to be nearly unguardable.
Nick Stone picked up where he left off, tallying 15 points while shooting 6-of-10 from the floor in the first half.
Simpson grew its largest lead to 37 points with just under five minutes left in the half on a layup by Stone. The Red Hawks later replenished their 37-point advantage on a jump shot by Ameere Britton, a three-pointer by Rob Aguirre, and a final bucket by Aguirre just before the break to hold a 63-29 lead.
The second half favored Lincoln as they relied heavily on Laolo Kalejaiye, who dropped 32 points after the break to keep Lincoln in the game. However, the early deficit proved too much to overcome, as the Red Hawks got strong second-half play from Britton and Aguirre, who combined for 15 points and four rebounds.
Ameere Britton anchored the Red Hawks' offense with a team-high 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. Kellen Torrey followed closely behind with 18 points, while Rob Aguirre and Nick Stone rounded out the double-digit scorers, combining for 28 points.
Simpson ended the night dominating every major category, scoring 28 points off turnovers and 56 bench points while never trailing in the game.
Simpson looks to stay hot as it hosts its Oxford Suites Invitational this Friday and Saturday, taking on Warner Pacific on Friday at 7 PM.
