REDDING, Calif. -Â Simpson men's soccer completed a successful weekend recording four points out of six possible and maintaining the second place spot in the Cal Pac table after defeating Benedictine Mesa, 4-1, and drawing with Park University, 1-1.
With the positive results on the weekend,
Daniel Morales won Defender of the Week in the Cal Pac Conference this week for his contribution to the Red Hawks' week.
Against BenU, it was three second-half goals that propelled Simpson to the victory over the rivaled 'Redhawks' as
Diego Alvarez,
Gio De La Torre,
Michel Hempe, and
Joel Sterling all scored for the Red Hawks.
Cristhian Guevara assisted two of the goals as SU withstood a 26-shot outing from BenU, with 19 on goal as
Daniel Morales tallied 11 saves on the match.
In the 1-1 draw, both defenses proved tough as Simpson took a 1-0 lead into the half, but Park-Gilbert was able to equalize in the 51st minute.
Austin Miller was the goal scorer for Simpson of an assist by
Jesus Ramirez Cervantes.
SU remains in 2nd place in the conference as the midway point of the conference schedule edges nearer. The Red Hawks will face Providence Christian in their next match on the road in Pasadena, CA with kickoff set for 1:30 PM on September 30th.
